Description

This part replaces 059122111D. As usual it is machined from 6061 aluminum somewhere secret in the Pacific Northwest and anodized black cause it looks better that way.
The shape was inspired by pears in case you were wondering.

When removing and bypassing the EGR cooler in Gen1 engines (Euro6), something must be done with the EGR thermostat that hangs off the primary coolant thermostat like a colostomy bag.

As you can see in the diagram below, the EGR system was designed by a psycopath.
Anywaysssss….the EGR thermostat is what feeds “V400” pump.

It has to be capped off, or otherwise removed when doing the delete. otherwise you will start pissing coolant randomly in the engine bay.
This part is plastic and is also extremely expensive. Its Oring is not available from VW, but if you do want to just replace it, use a 19.5×2.5mm EPDM oring (or NBR if thats all you can get. )

This machined part allows you to completely remove the EGR thermostat, avoid having to buy expensive silicone coolant caps, and maintain the use of the genuine CATA 059121111R thermostat which is very easy to buy domestically within North america .

You have an alternative to this part I’d like to make you aware of.

You can buy the european BUN/BKS thermostat part number 059121111L which does not have the extra port for this part
Note that all of the “OEM” ones are chinese and all identical from same factory.
Ask me how i know. Yes this includes Mahle.
I would recommend either buy a new genuine BKS thermostat, or use this with a genuine 059121111R thermostat.
