This is a kit of Both (yes, both) O-Ring seals for Bosch CP4 Metering valves.
Includes the highly elusive Blue Tabbed O-ring, manufactured in OE material by an automotive Tier 1 supplier and VAG OEM.
I needed these O-rings for a Disaster kit way way back when, but couldn’t find them. This is because some (all) of the vendors of these disaster kits insist on using standard orings which can just fall out if you look at them wrong while installing and then cause a massive leak.
Notice how the large OD, blue o-ring on the metering valve has TABS!?!?! Its to hold it in position so it doesn’t fall tf out….. yeah well this is apparently big news to disaster kit guys.
“Oh you can just CREAMPIE the thing with grease and the o-ring stays on” they say. $400 later and they got me slathering the back of the o-ring with vaseline the way my girlfriend be putting Aquaphor on her lips before bed causing her to think about slugs, then asking me if i’d still love her if she was a slug and then getting mad when i tell her our relationship wouldn’t survive her not being a mammal.
this kind of shit makes me turn beet red while boiling kettle whistling noises starting playing from somewhere in the background.
So then i tried really hard and 5 hours later i unearthed them in some Bobcat parts diagrams. The only reason I found this was because of a misspelled eBay listing of a CP4 pump that inexplicably steered the rabbit hole in the right direction. This is usual how these things work tbh.
But the price was insane lol (i still bought them though). and that was 2 years ago, who knows wtf it is now with 2 years of what I’m told is only “3% inflation”. if you add a zero to the end of that, I feel like you get closer to the truth. I’m sure now these humble o-rings probably like 50 jillion.
This is kind of ridiculous for a simple set of two o-rings, and I was certain that there were others who also were like me and frustrated at how hard these were to find.
In my usual fashion I sent a bunch for material analysis and reversing, and bought tooling once again to make a product that I am now convinced no one will buy.
I do not and will never buy gaskets from random alibaba companies. It may have made my life easier in this specific case (and many others), but IDC. I either buy Genuine/OE or I buy tooling and an actual super-legit automotive gasket company makes them. Period end of story.
I asked the disaster kit guys if they were interested and they literally do not care. they are too expensive for them and they don’t see the point (see above grease slathering point).
But I’m still posting them. It feels more like a flex at this point.
