Description
NOTE!
While kit is available now and shipping, changes are planned before I consider this kit finalized!
It is listed for customer’s request who want it NOW.
If you want a lower-price kit, please order the original kit. I will continue to keep it in stock!
The Evo kit currently is shipping with EPDM hoses same as the original design.
New UK-made silicone hoses w/ OAT-liner are in development for the entire coolant loop to replace all OEM positions. If you really want these, please do not order yet!
This kit performs the same function as the original kit, but adds additional features that were not possible with 3-axis toolpaths used in the original design.
The OG kit is great and works perfectly and is very cost effective, but I wanted to go all out on something super fancy and even better.
All machining and anodizing for this kit is done locally in the PNW.
The purpose of this Evo Kit:
- Be beautiful -> Updated design to exploit additional machining capabilities and improved surface finish, custom hose barb tooling, and black type2 anodizing by popular request (intermediate flange needs it for galvanic corrosion resistance)
- Eliminate all plastic from the valley -> Billet Intermediate flange, custom hose to eliminate 90deg elbow to stock thermostat hose.
- Easier install -> Custom tooling and better capabilities allow for 100% perfect hose install with no thinking or adjustments needed as there is no filleting or radius on corners, the hose stops exactly without riding up.
- Bulletproof hoses -> I was not 100% satisfied with tying to the stock thermostat hose, and really wanted to complete the coolant loop with no extra unions and no re-use of stock hoses. This led to the development of custom-formed hoses that precisely install while maintaining clearance to the manifold and support bracket. After much work, new hoses are going towards production in a silicone with a novel OAT/G12/G12 Evo compatible liner formulation so that it will look brand new for the entire life of your vehicle, and outlive you. G12 Evo contains 2-ethylhexanoic acid as part of the OAT additive pack, which softens standard VMQ/silicone and even fluorosilicone, causing it to eventually rupture and fail.Almost all silicone hoses on the market, including all competitors for this product are actually incompatible with G12 Evo, but they do not use compatible materials either due to cost or ignorance.EPDM, which is the oem material, is compatible with G12 Evocoolant, but of course they dont last forever. As an organic rubber it is susceptible to oxidation from ozone and oxygen the high temperature environment of the valley.
It is also a very robust material for hoses. OEM hoses only need a single layer to meet automotive requirements.Silicone has far longer service life in high ambient temps, and is essentially immune to oxidation. With an OAT-compatible liner, it is the superior choice for this application and what will be coming very soon for this kit.
Of course it is a soft and pliable material, which is why you will only find silicone hoses with 2+ layers of reinforcement fabric. The production process is also markedly different. EPDM is typically extruded around a single layer fabric reinforcement and cured which can support low cost, volume production.
Silicone hoses are wrapped layer by layer around a mold, then fabric reinforcement added, then repeat until the hose is complete. Then the hose is tightly wrapped with plastic wrap, cured, and removed from the fixture.
For these upcoming hoses, the first layers is a special silicone compound that is both compatible with OAT coolants and further reduces the permeability of the hose assembly. For custom formed hoses, and especially low volume production, this process is done entirely done by hand! For straight hoses, this can be easily automated, but for custom hoses it is basically manual.
This being labor intensive, it is normally only done in very low labor cost regions, India, Vietnam, China, etc.But I’m not satisfied with that. So all these hoses will be exclusively handmade in the United kingdom by excruciatingly british people.
This is not really information you can do anything with but I’m bored and just started typing.
Until then….
